The Governor of Abia State, Mr. Alex Otti has signed a digital initiative tagged ‘Dig Once Policy’ into law.
Mr. Otti said that the ‘development’ is a key partnership between the Ministries of Digital Economy and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), Science and Technology, and Works.
“In line with the global and national broadband plan, I signed the “Dig Once Policy”, a groundbreaking move to domesticate and propel our state into a new era of technological growth and advancement. With the signing of the “Dig Once Policy” (DOP), we are laying the groundwork for a future of endless opportunities and potential in broadband high-speed internet and telecommunications services.
“This initiative is the result of a strategic collaboration among the ministries of Digital Economy and SMEs, Science and Technology, and Works. It is a game-changer for our industrious youth, who are set to become the digital trailblazers of the future. The DOP is set to unlock their potential by standardizing access to high-speed internet across the state, thereby fostering job creation, combating poverty, and enhancing the quality of life for all,” he stated on X, formerly Twitter on Friday.
The governor described the ‘Dig Once Policy’ as Abia’s blueprint for coordinated development, thereby minimizing the number and scale of excavations when installing telecommunications infrastructure in public rights-of-way and utilising a cost-effective plan.
He stressed that it is a commitment to preserving roads and economizing resources for prospective service providers and every inhabitant of the state.
“As we commemorate this significant initiative, we also welcome the inauguration of the implementation council, headed by our Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu. Under his supervision, we are set to turn this ambitious blueprint into a tangible reality,” he added.
